Frequently Asked Questions

How long is the course?

The Concealed Carry Certification Course length is two days. Day one will be spent in the classroom. Day two will be spent in the classroom and on the range.

Am I required to shoot a handgun during the course?

Yes. In order to pass the course and qualify to apply for a NM Concealed Carry License you will have to pass a shooting qualification. The qualification consists of firing 25 rounds at a 12x18 target. 15 rounds will be fired from a distance of 3 yards (9 feet) and the remaining 10 rounds will be fired from a distance of 7 yards (21 feet). Each round is worth 4 points, and a 72% is required to pass, meaning you can miss a total of 7 rounds.

Do I need to own a handgun in order to take the course?

No. Although you do not need to personally own a firearm in order to take the course, it is suggested that you do. We have a small number of guns available to rent, however, we suggest training with the firearm you intend to carry.

Do you provide my NM Concealed Carry License once I complete the course?

No. Your NM CCL is issued by the state. At the completion of the course you will receive a certificate and letter of completion that you will need to include with your application to the NMDPS.

What are the requirements for a NM Concealed Carry License?

You must be 21 years of age, a US citizen or permanent resident, a NM resident or a member/dependent of an individual in the armed forces permanently stationed in NM. You must also successfully complete a NMDPS approved firearms training course, such as the one we offer.

How long is my Concealed Carry License valid?

The NM Concealed Carry License is valid for 4 years from the date of issue unless it is suspended or revoked.

My Concealed Carry License has expired, what can I do?

NM gives you a grace period of 60 days from the date your license expires in order to renew. If you are within the 60 day period you are eligible to take the 4-year refresher course. If you have passed the 60 day grace period you will have to complete an initial Concealed Carry Certification Course. Remember, even though you have a 60 day grace period, once your license expires you can no longer carry a concealed firearm until your license is renewed.
